Quick Answer
How do you fix the Google Calendar writer access error?
Select a Google Calendar owned by the connected account, or open the calendar’s Settings and sharing page and give the connected Google account Make changes to events permission. Return to BizStackPro, reselect or reconnect the calendar, and create a test appointment to confirm that syncing works.
What the Google Calendar Writer Access Error Means
When connecting Google Calendar to BizStackPro, you may see a message similar to:
“You need to have writer access to sync appointments to the selected Google Calendar.”
This message means the connected Google account can view the selected calendar but cannot add, edit, or delete events in it.
This commonly happens when the selected calendar is shared as read-only, belongs to another Google account, or is one of several similarly named calendars visible in the same account.
BizStackPro needs permission to write appointment events to the calendar used for synchronization. Without that permission, new appointments may not appear in Google Calendar.
Writer access applies to the connected account
The Google account used during the BizStackPro connection must either own the selected calendar or have permission to Make changes to events.
Google Calendar Writer Access at a Glance
Before You Begin
Confirm which Google account and calendar BizStackPro is trying to use before changing permissions.
- Identify the Google account currently connected to BizStackPro.
- Confirm that you can sign in to that Google account.
- Identify the Google Calendar selected for appointment syncing.
- Determine whether the connected account owns that calendar.
- Check whether similarly named calendars appear in the selection.
- Confirm that you can contact the calendar owner when permission changes are required.
- Prepare a test contact and appointment time for the final sync check.
Fix 1: Use a Google Calendar You Own
Choosing a calendar owned by the connected Google account is usually the fastest way to resolve the writer access error.
Open Calendar Connection Settings
In BizStackPro, open the Calendar Connections area where the Google Calendar is selected.
Confirm the Connected Google Account
Verify that the displayed account is the Google account you intend to use.
Open the Calendar Selection
Review the available Google Calendars that can be selected for appointment syncing.
Select the Primary Calendar
Choose the primary calendar owned by the connected Google account.
Save the Connection
Save the calendar selection in BizStackPro.
Create a Test Appointment
Book a test appointment and confirm that the event appears in the selected Google Calendar.
Use this option when a shared calendar is not required
An owned calendar normally gives the connected account the permissions needed to create and edit appointment events.
Fix 2: Grant Make Changes to Events Permission
Use this method when BizStackPro must sync appointments to a shared Google Calendar rather than one owned by the connected account.
Open Google Calendar
Sign in to Google Calendar using an account that owns or manages the shared calendar.
Find the Calendar
In the left sidebar, locate the calendar BizStackPro should use.
Open Settings and Sharing
Hover over the calendar name, open the three-dot menu, and select Settings and sharing.
Find Share with Specific People
Scroll to Share with specific people or Share with specific people and groups.
Add the Connected Google Account
Add the email address of the Google account connected to BizStackPro.
Select Make Changes to Events
Set the permission level to Make changes to events.
Save the Permission Change
Save the calendar-sharing settings in Google Calendar.
Return to BizStackPro
Reopen Calendar Connections and reselect the shared calendar.
Reconnect When Needed
Use the reconnect option if the updated permission does not appear immediately.
Grant access to the exact connected account
If several Google accounts are used in the same browser, confirm that writer access was granted to the account connected through BizStackPro OAuth—not a different personal or business account.
Fix 3: Resolve Duplicate Calendar Names
Seeing two or more calendars with the same name, such as Personal, can make it difficult to identify the calendar that has writer access.
Duplicate or similar names can appear when:
- Several Google accounts are signed in through the same browser.
- Different accounts contain calendars with the same name.
- A shared calendar is visible but does not allow event changes.
- The connected account can see both an owned and a shared version of a calendar.
Confirm the Connected Account
Review the Google account connected in BizStackPro.
Open Each Calendar’s Settings
In Google Calendar, open Settings and sharing for each calendar with the duplicate name.
Check the Owner and Permission
Confirm which account owns the calendar and whether the connected account has Make changes to events permission.
Select the Editable Calendar
Return to BizStackPro and choose the calendar owned by or shared with the connected account using writer permissions.
Request Access When Needed
If the correct calendar is read-only, ask its owner to grant permission to make changes to events.
Similar names do not mean identical permissions
Two calendars can use the same visible name while belonging to different accounts or providing different access levels.
Refresh the Calendar Connection
Refresh the connection when the correct permission has been granted but BizStackPro still cannot write appointment events.
Open Calendar Connections
Return to the calendar connection settings in BizStackPro.
Use Reconnect
Select Reconnect when that option is available.
Use the Original Google Account
Sign in with the same Google account that was connected originally.
Approve the Requested Permissions
Review and approve the access requested by the connection.
Temporarily Disable Event Syncing
When needed, select Do not sync events and save the setting.
Reselect the Google Calendar
Reopen the setting, choose the correct editable Google Calendar, and save again.
Reconnect before rebuilding the integration
Reconnecting or temporarily resetting the selected calendar may restore the connection without removing all existing calendar settings.
Test the Google Calendar Sync
Complete a test appointment after selecting the calendar or changing its permissions.
Create a Test Appointment
Book a new appointment through the applicable BizStackPro calendar.
Open Google Calendar
Open the selected Google Calendar using the connected account.
Confirm the Appointment Appears
Verify that the new appointment was written to the correct Google Calendar.
Edit the Test Appointment
Change the appointment time or another available detail in BizStackPro.
Confirm the Update Syncs
Verify that the Google Calendar event reflects the appointment change.
Review Conflict Checking
Confirm that existing busy Google Calendar events block availability when the calendar is also used for conflict checking.
