Split or A/B Testing in Email Campaigns

Test multiple versions of your subject line or email content (up to 6 variations) to see what performs best—then automatically send the winner to the rest of your list.

Testing Your Emails to Find What Actually Works

You may create email campaigns, but guessing what will perform best can lead to inconsistent results.

A/B testing lets you compare different subject lines or content variations so you can base decisions on real data.

Without testing, it’s harder to improve engagement and optimize future campaigns.

This guide will show you how to run split tests so you can identify winning versions and improve overall performance.

Once you understand how A/B testing works, follow the steps below to create variations, measure results, and send the highest-performing version inside your BizStackPro email campaigns.

Overview

A/B Testing (split testing) helps you make data-driven email decisions by testing multiple versions of a campaign and selecting the winner based on performance.

  • Test up to 6 variations of an email.
  • Run tests on subject lines or email content.
  • Select a winner using Unique Open Rate or Unique Click Rate.
  • Automatically send the winning version to the remaining audience when the test ends.

Follow along: Start your campaign → open the A/B Testing tab → enable the toggle → choose subject line or content testing.

How to Set Up A/B Testing

  1. Go to MarketingEmails and open Email Campaigns (or Campaigns).
  2. Create a new campaign and click the A/B Testing tab.
  3. Enable the A/B testing toggle.
  4. Choose what to test: Subject Line or Email Content.
  5. Set the Test Duration.
  6. Select the number of variations (up to 6).
  7. Set the test size distribution and add your variations (manually or with AI tools if available).
  8. Select the Winning Criteria: Unique Open Rate or Unique Click Rate.
  9. Choose how to deliver: Send Now or Schedule.

Minimum requirement: You need at least 10 contacts per variation. For example, 4 versions requires at least 40 contacts.

Heads up: A/B tests typically support Send Now or standard Schedule. Batch and RSS schedules are not supported for A/B tests.

Managing Tests

During an A/B test, you can manage the campaign like any other—pause, edit, and resume when needed (depending on send status and platform rules).

  • When the test duration ends, BizStackPro selects a winner automatically.
  • The winning version is sent to the remaining contacts based on your criteria.
  • Review results to guide future subject lines, layouts, and calls-to-action.

Quick tip: If your goal is clicks, test different CTA placement and button copy—not just subject lines.

Use Case Example

Launching a new product and unsure which subject line will get the most opens? Run a subject line A/B test with a portion of your list, then automatically send the winning version to everyone else.

Example setup: Test 3 subject lines → 10+ contacts per version → choose Unique Open Rate → send winner to the rest after the duration ends.

Why This Matters

  • Better engagement: You’re not guessing—your audience tells you what works.
  • Higher performance: Winning versions can improve open and click rates.
  • Repeatable learning: Each test gives you insights you can reuse.
  • Smarter scaling: Send your best message to the largest portion of your list.
