How To Use Trigger Links in SMS

Insert trigger links into SMS messages using Conversations, workflows, or templates—so clicks can be tracked and automations can fire based on what contacts do next.

Turning Simple SMS Messages Into Action Triggers

You may be sending SMS messages, but it’s not always clear what happens after a contact clicks a link.

Trigger links allow you to track clicks and automatically take action—like tagging contacts or starting workflows.

Without this setup, messages can stop at “sent” without moving the contact forward.

This guide will show you how to use trigger links so your messages lead to measurable actions and automation.

Once you understand how trigger links work, follow the steps below to insert them into messages, workflows, and templates inside your BizStackPro account.

What Trigger Links Do

Trigger links are special URLs you insert into SMS messages. When a contact clicks one, BizStackPro can track that action and use it to trigger workflows, tag contacts, or move people through automations based on engagement.

Follow along: Open Conversations → select a contact → switch to SMS → click the + icon to insert a trigger link.

Important Restriction

Note: Trigger links cannot be used as short links. Use the full trigger link format so tracking and automation work correctly.

Option 1: Insert a Trigger Link in Conversations

  1. Go to Conversations and open the message thread for the contact.
  2. Switch to SMS in the composer (if you’re not already there).
  3. Click the + icon to view available items (including trigger links).
  4. Select the trigger link you want to insert.
  5. Add any supporting text, then send the message.

What you’ll see: The trigger link token/value is replaced by the full URL in the outgoing SMS.

Option 2: Add a Trigger Link in a Workflow SMS Step

  1. Edit (or create) your workflow.
  2. Add an SMS action step.
  3. Open the Trigger link tab inside the message builder.
  4. Select the trigger link you want to use.
  5. Save the workflow and test it before going live.

Pro tip: Pair trigger links with tags or branching logic so contacts take different paths depending on what they click.

Option 3: Use a Trigger Link in an SMS Template

  1. Go to MarketingTemplates.
  2. Click Add and create a Text (SMS) Template.
  3. Open the Trigger link tab.
  4. Insert the trigger link into your template message.
  5. Save the template and reuse it inside Conversations or workflows.
