How To Use Trigger Links in Emails

Track clicks, log activity to the contact timeline, and trigger workflow actions automatically using Trigger Links inside BizStackPro emails.

Turning Email Clicks Into Trackable Actions

You may be sending emails with links, but without tracking, you don’t know which contacts are actually engaging.

Trigger links let you track clicks and use that activity to trigger automated actions inside your workflows.

Without this connection, clicks become isolated events instead of actionable data.

This guide will show you how to use trigger links so you can track engagement and automate follow-ups based on real user behavior.

Once you understand how trigger links work, follow the steps below to add them to your emails, connect them to workflows, and use click activity inside your BizStackPro account.

What Are Trigger Links?

Trigger Links are clickable hyperlinks you add to emails. When a contact clicks, BizStackPro records the click in the contact’s activity timeline and can use that click as a signal to trigger a workflow action (based on how you’ve configured automation).

Follow along: Create (or choose) a Trigger Link → insert it into an email → send a test to yourself → click the link → confirm the click appears in the activity timeline.

Where You Can Use Trigger Links

Trigger Links can be inserted in multiple places so you can track engagement consistently across your communication and automation.

  • Contacts: Email a single contact and track the click in their timeline.
  • Conversations: Insert a trigger link while emailing from a conversation thread.
  • Workflows: Add trigger links inside automated “Send Email” actions.
  • Email Campaigns & Templates: Use trigger links inside your builder-based emails.

Pro tip: Name trigger links clearly (example: Pricing - Click, Book Demo - Click) so you can find them quickly in dropdowns and reports.

Using Trigger Links in Contacts or Conversations

  1. Open Contacts and select a contact (or open Conversations and select a thread).
  2. Open the Email composer.
  3. Click the Trigger Link / hyperlink option (often shown near the bottom toolbar of the editor).
  4. Select the desired Trigger Link from the dropdown (the URL should auto-populate).
  5. Enter the text you want displayed as the clickable link.
  6. Send your email and confirm clicks appear on the contact’s activity timeline.

Note: If you don’t see the trigger link you need, create one in Marketing > Trigger Links > Links, then return to your email and select it again.

Using Trigger Links in Workflows

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and open an existing workflow (or create a new one).
  2. Add or edit a Send Email action.
  3. Highlight the text you want clickable, click the hyperlink icon, and select the Trigger Link from the dropdown.
  4. Save the link, then save the action, and finally save/publish the workflow.

Follow along: Add a trigger link called “Demo - Click” to your workflow email, then trigger the workflow for a test contact and confirm the click is recorded properly.

Using Trigger Links in the Email Builder

  1. Go to Marketing > Emails and open Campaigns or Templates.
  2. Create a new email or edit an existing one.
  3. Click a text element (or button, if supported) and choose the hyperlink option.
  4. Select the desired Trigger Link from the dropdown to auto-insert the URL.
  5. Save your changes and send a test to confirm tracking is working.

Pro tip: Use descriptive link text like “View Pricing” or “Book Your Spot” so contacts know exactly what happens when they click.

Best Practices

  • Keep names consistent: Use a naming convention so dropdown search is easy.
  • Test before sending: Send a test email and click links to confirm logging + automation.
  • Use clear CTA text: Make it obvious what the click will do.
  • Monitor performance: Compare click behavior across campaigns to improve messaging.
