How to Unzip/Zip a File

Unzipping Files

Windows (File Explorer)

1. Locate the .zip file in File Explorer.
2. Right-click and select Extract All….
3. Choose a destination folder or keep the default.
4. Click Extract.

Mac (Finder)

1. Locate the .zip file in Finder.
2. Double-click it to open with Archive Utility.
3. The contents are extracted to a new folder in the same location.

Linux / macOS (Terminal)

1. Open Terminal.
2. Navigate with cd to the folder containing the zip.
3. Extract: unzip filename.zip
4. Extract to a specific folder: unzip -d /path/to/destination filename.zip

Zipping Files

Windows (File Explorer)

1. Select the files/folders you want to compress.
2. Right-click → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder.
3. Rename the new .zip if desired.

Mac (Finder)

1. Select the files/folders.
2. Control-click (or right-click) → Compress.
3. Finder creates Archive.zip (or a name based on the selection).

Linux / macOS (Terminal)

1. Create a zip from files: zip archive.zip file1 file2
2. Include folders (recursive): zip -r archive.zip folder_name
