BizStackPro Communities Help Guide

How to Transfer Ownership of a Community Group

Learn how to assign ownership of a BizStackPro community group to another member while remaining involved as a group administrator.

Quick Answer

How do you transfer ownership of a community group?

Open Memberships → Communities → Groups, select the group, click the pencil icon next to the current owner's name, choose an existing group member, confirm the transfer, and click Transfer Ownership. The former owner remains an administrator, while the new owner receives full ownership control.

How Community Ownership Transfers Work

Transferring ownership allows another member to take control of a BizStackPro community group without deleting the group or disrupting member access.

The new owner receives the highest level of control over group settings and ownership permissions. The previous owner remains involved as an administrator but no longer has full ownership authority.

Ownership can only be assigned to someone who is already a member of the community group.

Review the new owner carefully

If ownership is transferred to the wrong person, only the new owner can transfer it back.

The new owner receives an email

What Happens After Ownership Is Transferred

Ownership changes immediately affect who controls the highest-level group settings.

You Remain an Administrator

The previous owner keeps administrator access and can continue helping manage the community.

Ownership Controls Are Removed

The previous owner no longer has full control over ownership-level settings and permissions.

The New Owner Receives Full Control

The new owner can manage the highest-level group settings and ownership permissions.

Only One Owner Is Allowed

A community group can have only one owner at a time, although multiple administrators may still be assigned.

An accidental transfer must be reversed by the new owner

If ownership is transferred by mistake, ask the new owner to repeat the ownership-transfer process and assign it back to you.

Why Community Ownership Transfer Matters

Ownership transfer allows a community to continue operating when responsibility moves to another team member, business owner, or manager.

It can support delegation, business growth, team restructuring, or the sale or transfer of a community without interrupting member access.

Keeping the previous owner as an administrator can also support a smoother transition while the new owner takes responsibility for the highest-level settings.

Community Ownership Transfer Best Practices

Confirm the New Owner Is Already a Member
Reason: Ownership can only be assigned to someone who already belongs to the group.
Verify the Selected Person Carefully
Reason: Only the new owner can reverse an accidental transfer.
Explain the New Responsibilities
Reason: The new owner should understand that they are receiving full ownership control and responsibility.
Review Administrator Roles
Reason: Multiple administrators can remain involved even though only one person can own the group.
Confirm the Transfer Email Arrives
Reason: The email gives the new owner confirmation and direct access to the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can multiple people share ownership of a group?

Recommended Next Step

Review Member Roles After the Transfer

After ownership changes, confirm that the new owner, former owner, and other administrators have the correct roles and access.

The new owner should also review the group's settings, member list, private channels, and active community responsibilities before taking full control.
