Create a Certificate for Your Membership Course

Recognize learner achievements with polished completion certificates. Design your certificate, attach it to courses or categories, manage expiry, and export issued records when needed.

Adding a Clear Finish Line to Your Course

After building out your course content, you may want a clear way to recognize completion so learners know they’ve reached the end of a milestone.

Certificates provide a structured way to issue proof of completion by attaching a designed document to a course or category that is delivered when requirements are met.

Without a defined completion point, learners can finish content without a sense of progress or achievement, which can reduce engagement and perceived value.

This guide will walk you through how to create, customize, and manage certificates so they align with your course structure and completion goals.

To begin, it helps to understand what the certificate builder allows you to create and control.

What the Certificate Builder Can Do

  • Drag-and-drop editor for text, images, badges, and signatures.
  • Quick adjustments for size, alignment, colors, and fonts.
  • Mobile-friendly output that looks great across devices.
  • Efficiency tools like undo/redo and save shortcuts (ex: CTRL+Z, CTRL+S).

Follow along: Create the template first → attach it to the right course/category → test completion with a test member → confirm the download experience in the Client Portal.

Build a Certificate from Scratch

  1. Go to Memberships → Certificates.
  2. Click + New and choose Blank Certificate.
  3. Use the editor to add and style elements like:
    • Layout: portrait/landscape, frames, spacing
    • Background: colors, images, patterns, opacity
    • Text: headings, names, completion statements
    • Images: logos, seals, instructor signatures
    • Badges: visual completion markers
    • Signatures: signature fields or images
  4. Click Save when finished.

Use a Pre-Made Template

If you want a faster start, choose a ready-made design and customize it.

  1. Go to Memberships → Certificates.
  2. Click NewCertificate Templates.
  3. Select a template, then edit the text, branding, and layout.
  4. Save your version as a reusable certificate.

Pro tip: Add your logo + a consistent “completion line” once, then reuse the same template across multiple courses to keep branding consistent.

Personalize with Custom Fields

You can dynamically insert learner-specific info (like name) using custom fields.

  1. Drag a Text box onto the certificate.
  2. Click the text box to open its settings.
  3. Select Custom Field, then choose the field you want to insert.
  4. Save to keep the template ready for auto-issuing.

Attach Certificates to Courses or Categories

  • Default certificates: New courses may include a default certificate automatically.
  • Attach to a category: Place the certificate at the end of a category so it triggers once required lessons are completed.
  • Attach to a course: Open your course/product and attach the certificate from the certificates area inside the builder.
  • Delivery: When issued, certificates can be emailed with links to view/download.

Best practice: Attach certificates at the “end” of the learning path (end of a category or course completion) so the reward matches the milestone.

Manage Issued Certificates

  • Expiry: Set an expiry date or choose Never Expire.
  • Reminders: Users may receive reminder emails 2 and 7 days before expiry (if enabled).
  • Export: Export issued certificates to CSV for reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Permissions: Control certificate access via user/app permissions when needed.

Send Certificates Manually (Offline Certificates)

If someone completed training outside your course, you can still issue a certificate manually.

  1. Go to Memberships → Certificates.
  2. Select a certificate template (or create one).
  3. Click Send.
  4. Add the instructor and recipient details, choose an email template (if available), and send.

Follow along: Send one test certificate to yourself first to confirm spacing, font sizes, and the download experience.

Certificates in the Client Portal

Learners can view and download certificates from the Client Portal (when enabled).

  1. Log in to the Client Portal.
  2. Open Certificates (or profile avatar → Manage Your Account → Certificates).
  3. Preview the certificate and click Download for a high-quality copy.

Want your courses to feel more “complete”?

Certificates give learners a clear finish line—and a shareable win they can post online.
