Update Subscription Payment Method – BizStackPro Help

Update Subscription Payment Method

Send customers a secure, one-time link to update the card or bank on file for an active subscription—no account gymnastics required.

Fixing Failed Payments Without Losing the Subscription

When a subscription payment fails, it often comes down to outdated or expired payment details—but getting customers to update them can slow everything down.

Payment update links allow customers to securely update their payment method without logging in or going through a complex process.

Without a simple update flow, failed payments can turn into canceled subscriptions or lost recurring revenue.

This guide will walk you through how to send and manage update links so customers can fix their payment details quickly and keep their subscription active.

To begin, review what this feature does and how it helps maintain active subscriptions.

What This Feature Does

  • Send a link so customers can update their payment method themselves.
  • One-time links that expire in 30 days.
  • Next-cycle billing: the new method is used starting with the next scheduled charge.
  • Manage security: create multiple links and deactivate outstanding links anytime.

Follow along: Go to Payments → Subscriptions → open the subscription’s quick actions (or the subscription details Actions) → Send payment update link.

Step 1: Navigate to Subscriptions

  1. Go to Payments → Subscriptions.
  2. Locate the subscription you want to update.

Step 2: Send the Update Link

  1. From the list quick action menu (or subscription details → Actions), choose Send payment update link.
  2. Select Email now or choose Copy link to share via SMS/chat.
  3. Each link is single-use and valid for 30 days.

Pro tip: If you’re close to renewal, send the link immediately and include the renewal date in your message so customers update their payment method before the next cycle runs.

Step 3: Customer Updates Details

  • The customer opens the link and updates the card/bank info for that subscription.
  • After success, future charges use the new method starting with the next billing cycle.

Step 4: Manage & Deactivate Links

  • Generate additional links if needed (for example: customer lost the email).
  • From the subscription page, deactivate outstanding links to revoke access immediately.
  • Deactivating links is a good move if a link was sent to the wrong person or channel.

Notes & Support

  • Links are tied to a single subscription.
  • Once used, a link cannot be reused.
  • Works across multiple supported payment gateways in BizStackPro.
