Set Up Replies in Mailgun

Configure a receiving route and inbound webhook in Mailgun so email replies route back into your BizStackPro conversations.

Making Sure Replies Don’t Get Lost After You Send Emails

You may be sending emails, but if replies aren’t routed correctly, conversations can break and leads can be missed.

Mailgun requires a receiving route and proper DNS setup to capture inbound replies and forward them into your system.

Without this setup, replies may never reach BizStackPro, leaving follow-ups incomplete.

This guide will show you how to configure reply routing so every response comes back into your conversations where you can act on it.

Once you understand how reply routing works, follow the steps below to create your receiving route, configure forwarding, and verify your setup inside Mailgun.

Prerequisite: Paid Mailgun Plan

Reply routing requires a paid Mailgun plan (at least the Foundation plan). If you’re on a free plan, inbound routing features may not be available.

Tip: If replies aren’t showing up, confirm your plan level first—then verify your receiving route and MX records.

Step 1: Create a Receiving Route

The receiving route tells Mailgun what to do with inbound replies. For BizStackPro, you’ll forward inbound mail to the webhook endpoint.

  1. In Mailgun, open the Receiving tab.
  2. Click Create Route (top right).
  3. Set Expression Type to Catch All.
  4. Enable Forward and paste: https://msgsndr.com/mailgun/inbound_webhook
  5. Set Priority to 99.
  6. (Optional) Add a description like MG Receiving Route.
  7. Click Create Route to save.

Follow along: Receiving → Create Route → Catch All → Forward to webhook → Priority 99 → Save.

Step 2: Confirm the Route Was Created

After saving, you should see a route similar to this in your list:

catch_all() Priority: 99
forward("https://msgsndr.com/mailgun/inbound_webhook")

If you don’t see it: refresh the page, confirm you saved, and make sure you created the route under the correct Mailgun account/project.

Important: WIX Limitation (MX Records)

Reply routing typically depends on inbound email delivery to Mailgun, which requires MX records. Some providers (like WIX in certain configurations) don’t allow full MX record control.

  1. Move DNS management to Cloudflare (or another DNS provider that supports MX records).
  2. Add the required MX records and Mailgun DNS records for your sending/replies domain.
  3. Verify DNS in Mailgun after the records propagate.

Pro tip: If you’re already using Cloudflare, double-check that your MX records are created on the same subdomain you’re using for Mailgun (example: mg.yourdomain.com).

Want replies, automation, and conversations in one place?

BizStackPro connects email sending with CRM and automation—so inbound replies and follow-ups don’t fall through the cracks.

Pro Tips

  • Test after setup: Send a reply to a recent outbound email and confirm it appears in BizStackPro.
  • Confirm MX records: Inbound routing won’t work without the correct MX records.
  • Label routes clearly: Helpful when you manage multiple domains or environments.
  • Monitor inbound logs: Use Mailgun’s inbound logs to confirm forwarding activity.
