Membership Statuses

Control how and when members see your content. Use Published, Draft, Locked, and Drip to manage visibility across categories, subcategories, and lessons.

Controlling When and How Members See Your Content

As you build out your membership, it can be unclear why some content is visible right away while other sections stay hidden or become available later.

Status settings control whether content is visible, restricted, or scheduled, allowing you to manage how members move through categories, lessons, and subcategories.

Without using statuses correctly, members may see incomplete material, skip ahead too quickly, or miss structured learning paths entirely.

This guide will walk you through how each status works so you can control visibility, pacing, and progression across your membership content.

To begin, it helps to understand what statuses control and how they affect content visibility.

What “Statuses” Control

Statuses control visibility and access timing inside your membership products. You can apply them to categories, subcategories, and lessons/posts to build clean learning paths.

Follow along: Open a membership product → hover over a category or lesson → open the status dropdown → choose a status → Save/Publish.

Published

Use Published when a category, subcategory, or lesson is ready for members to view. Published content appears in the membership area for anyone who has access through their offer.

Best for: Finished lessons, finalized modules, and “live” course sections you want members to access immediately.

Draft

Draft keeps content hidden from members while you build, revise, or test. Many new sections start in Draft so you can safely work without confusing learners.

Pro tip: Keep anything “half-done” in Draft—especially content with missing videos, unfinished downloads, or placeholder text.

Locked

Locked restricts access until prerequisites are completed. This is how you build a step-by-step learning path so members finish key lessons before moving forward.

  • Lock a category: Locks everything inside that category.
  • Lock an individual lesson/post: Locks only that single item.

Important: If you mean to lock only one lesson, make sure you set the status on the lesson/post—not the entire category.

Drip

Drip releases content over time. You can unlock items after a set number of days from a member’s first login or based on a schedule (depending on your membership setup).

Example: Week 1 content is Published, Week 2 content drips after 7 days, and Week 3 content drips after 14 days—so members pace through the program.

Lessons & Subcategories

Status options generally apply to categories, subcategories, and lessons. Depending on the item type, you may see slight differences (for example, lessons may include a Delete option and may not support Drip in some configurations).

Quick check: If you don’t see Drip on a lesson, try setting Drip at the category/subcategory level (or confirm how your product type supports Drip).

Want a smoother learning path for your members?

Statuses help you deliver content the right way—publish what’s ready, keep drafts private, lock prerequisites, and drip content for paced programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Published status do?

It makes a category, subcategory, or lesson visible to members who have access to the course.

When should I use the Draft status?

Use Draft when you’re building or editing so incomplete content stays hidden.

How does the Locked status work?

Locked restricts access until prerequisites are completed. You can lock categories or individual lessons.

What is the Drip status?

Drip releases content over time (days from first login or on a schedule), so members receive lessons in phases.

Do statuses apply to lessons and subcategories too?

Yes. They generally apply across the structure, though some item types may show slightly different options.

Deliver the Right Content at the Right Time

Publish what’s ready, keep drafts private, lock the learning path, and drip releases for paced programs—statuses make your membership feel intentional.
