Keeping Course Discussions Useful and Under Control
As members start interacting with your course, discussions can grow quickly, and it can become difficult to manage what should stay visible and what should be limited.
Comment settings allow you to control how discussions behave by enabling, hiding, or locking threads at both the category and lesson level.
Without clear control over comments, conversations can become distracting, unorganized, or misaligned with the learning experience.
This guide will walk you through how to manage comment settings so you can keep discussions focused, visible where needed, and properly moderated.
To start, it’s important to understand how the different comment states affect visibility and interaction.
Understand Comment States
- Enabled: Thread is visible and members can add new comments.
- Hidden: Thread is completely hidden from members.
- Locked: Existing comments remain visible, but new ones are blocked.
Enable, Hide, or Lock Comments by Category
- Go to Memberships → Courses and open the Products tab.
- Select an existing product or create a new one.
- Open the Comments section.
- Select a category and choose Enabled, Hidden, or Locked.
Set Comment Rules for Individual Lessons
Within a category, you can override defaults by selecting individual lessons and setting each to Enabled, Hidden, or Locked.
Use the Comments Manager
- Navigate to Products → Manage Comments.
- Review all comment threads across the product in one place.
Change Comment Visibility
- Public: Visible to instructors and all enrolled members.
- Instructor Only: Visible only to the instructor and the original commenter.
Delete or Restore Comments
- Delete: Select a comment in Manage Comments and click Delete.
- Restore: Open the Deleted tab, select a comment, and click Restore.
Set Default Privacy for New Comments
- Open your Course Product.
- Select Comments.
- Choose a default for New Comment Privacy.
- Instructor Only: Only instructors can view comments.
- Public: All members can view comments.
- Both: Visible to the poster and instructor.
Allow Images and GIFs in Comments
Members can upload standard image formats and GIFs (within size limits) to provide clearer feedback and richer discussions.
