In some situations, customers want to show appreciation beyond the invoice amount—but there’s no easy way to include that in the payment.
Tip options allow customers to add a gratuity directly during checkout without needing a separate transaction or follow-up.
Without this option, additional payments require extra steps, which can reduce the likelihood that customers will take action.
This guide will walk you through how to enable and manage tips so customers can easily add gratuity while completing their payment.

Why Enable Tips on Invoices
Tips (gratuity) give customers a simple way to reward great service at checkout—without needing a separate payment request.

Good to know: You can turn tips on globally and still control (or disable) them per invoice using Manage Tips.
Enable Tips Globally
Turn on tip collection once so new invoices can offer tipping options.
- Go to Payments → Invoices & Estimates → All Invoices
- Click Settings → Payment Settings
- Toggle Allow Tip Payments on
- Click Save
Follow along: After enabling globally, open any invoice and use Manage Tips to set the exact options customers will see.
Configure Tips on a Specific Invoice
Customize tip percentages and optionally allow customers to enter a custom amount.
- Create or open an invoice
- Click the ⋯ menu at the top of the invoice and choose Manage Tips
- Select preset percentages (for example 10%, 15%, 20%)
- Optionally enable a custom amount
- Click Save, then send the invoice—customers will see tip choices at checkout
Tip: If you need to disable tips for a specific invoice, open that invoice and use Manage Tips to switch tipping off.
Refund Tips
When a tip is included in a payment, you can refund the invoice amount including the tip from the invoice actions menu.
Reminder: If you’re unsure how your payment processor handles partial vs. full refunds, test on a small internal invoice first.
Download an Invoice PDF
Download a PDF copy for record-keeping, reimbursements, customer requests, audits, or dispute resolution.
- Open the invoice
- Click the ⋯ menu
- Select Download
- The PDF saves to your device’s default downloads folder
